2010 ALA Community Challenge

Please mark your calendars for this year’s ALA Community Challenge, which will again be held at the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room.

What: Serve lunch to low-income and homeless individuals

When: Friday, October 8, 2010, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm (please be onsite at 11:00 am)

Where: St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, 437 West 200 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

Parking: Available next to facility, just past the gates

TRAX stop: 500 West on 200 South

Notes: Open-toed shoes are not permitted and long hair must be tied back.

Scott Mecham will solicit reservations in early October so we can provide a participation count. UALA also encourages personal donations of $25 (roughly the cost of three lunches) and/or donations from your respective firms of $100 to $500. Please make checks to St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room and bring with you on October 8, or mail the check if you are unable to attend the event.

Membership Renewals

It is that time of year to renew your chapter membership. If there is anyone at your office that could benefit from joining the chapter invite them to join. Please fill out the membership form and mail it along with a check to the address on the form. Forms and payment should be received by June 30, 2010.

Shauna Huston 2nd Runner-up for 2010 ALA Quest Award

Congratulations to Shauna Huston who was selected as second runner-up for the 2010 ALA Quest Award for outstanding new association member! ALA’s “Quest Award” recognizes a new member who is involved in a number of Association activities. The award recipient demonstrates traits from a successful quest and from the Association’s Performance Objectives for Members. There were nearly 900 eligible candidates this year. The 2010 Quest Award recipient was announced at the Chapter Awards Reception held in conjunction with the Annual Conference in Boston, MA, on May 3, 2010.

April Chapter Meeting

Yesterday we held our Annual Chapter Elections and Meetings. Shauna Huston was nominated and voted in to fill the vacant board position. Korey Lowder was voted in as President, Matt Fankhauser was voted in as Vice-President, Melissa Wood as voted in as Treasurer and Shauna Huston was voted in as Program Chair.

As a chapter we want to thank Scott Mecham for serving as President this past year and his service on the Board over the last four years.

January Chapter Meeting

Welcome to 2010. It is a new year and time to get back to some great education. This months meeting will be held at the offices of Dorsey & Whitney, located in the Kearns Building, 136 South Main Street, 9th Floor on Tuesday, January 19th at 12:30 p.m. Our meeting this month will provide an overview on the LEED certification process and some tips and resources for developing and implementing a “Green” initiative for your firm. Our presenters of this program are Aaron Jones of CBRE and Joe Smith and Kelly Morgan of Method Studio Architects.
