2007 ALA Region 4 Conference
Vickie Balis and Pam McLeese represented the chapter at the ALA Region 4 Conference in Oklahoma City. They attended excellent sessions, including Stephen Shapiro’s sessions on “Goal-free Living” and “SpeedInnovating: Breakthrough Solutions at Breakneck Speed” and Jim Stowall’s inspiring presentation: “Change Your Life by Changing Your Mind.” Stowall is a native Oklahoman who in 1988 founded the Narrative Television Network (NTN) to make programs and movies accessible to the blind and visually impaired. Entertainment during the conference included Oklahoma University students singing songs from the Broadway musical Oklahoma, dancers adorned in full Native American dress, guitarist Edgar Cruz, and dragon boat racing on the Oklahoma River. Pam and Vickie also visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum built to honor victims and survivors of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
